Principal's Corner

From the Desk of Dr. Ernie Rosado Welcome! 2012-2013 GSHS Students

Welcome! Its great celebrating the new school year. We have new teachers and students joining our Gulf shores High School family, and we especially want to welcome them. We hope that your four years with us will be educationally profitable for you. High school is a time of change. The workload and social adjustments are greater here than at the middle school level. You will be expected to attend school regularly, complete all assignments, and behave appropriately. Your years will be exciting and filled with many new opportunities. I look forward to working with you this school year. Let's make it the best one ever!

Thank you and have a good day!

Nothing happens unless first a dream. - Carl Sanburg

Learning for Life started as a dream about a year ago. Ms. Angie Swiger,
three island principals, and our community wanted more for our students so
we came up with this plan. The plan includes 1:1 Mac laptops for all 4th
through 12th grade students, Rosetta Stone foreign languages for all
students, personal finance classes for all high school students, a Spanish
teacher at Gulf Shores Middle school (GSMS), more advance placements
courses at the high school, career academies at Gulf Shores High (GSHS),
guests speakers at all schools, and high school senior internships. The
plan will start in August when we open the technology world to our
students. Our teachers are the most critical element in this transformation.
We will teach our students with the best 21st century tools in the
classroom. It is a learning process for all and we will start making this
critical transformation in teaching - collaboration.
Nothing happens without the community support we have on the island
because we want nothing but the best for our students. The organizations
supporting Learning for Life are Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce, South
Baldwin Regional Medical Center, PTSOs, Sports Commission, Coastal
Educational Foundation, Baldwin County Board of Education, City of Gulf
Shores/Orange Beach, local businesses and our citizens. We continue to
add more organizations everyday to this important program. It's exciting
how everybody has become a partner in this exciting transformation of our
schools. We couldn't do it alone.
A segment of Learning for Life offers new opportunities for Gulf Shores
High School students. All the electives at GSHS will be organized in a
career pathway or Career Academies. Our students selected an academy
for their elective courses before leaving school for summer vacation. The
academies are education, engineering, fine arts, audio visual, health
sciences, architect/agriculture, law, business & finance, informational
technology, hospitality, tourism & culinary. GSHS students will graduate
with an Alabama academic diploma and a specific certification within each
academy.
One team, One fight! - General Colin Powell
I added: One team, One fight to produce a productive citizen with
21st century skills.
Thank you for your continued support. Let this exciting journey begin for
our students on the island!
